Stormin' on through

This is more or less of what the background will look like on where the creature will sit...not very exciting but you know~

OKKK okkk

Here is the little creature~
I still don't have a name for this little critter..I am usually really bad with names : (, but perhaps I can ask my sister for some suggestions or help me out. She is kind of smart, haha!
(I know you read this blog and you know I am only kidding!)

Anyways, now that she is done, I need to think about presentation. Honestly, I thought this would take a lot longer than I had thought, but nope..took less time than I thought. I don't have many ideas now, but I can list some I do have...

I can create a background for the .gif creature. I might create a background with the critter in its environment or just some sort of landscape kind of thing.
perhaps I could make a quick web page using Dreamweaver since I do have some experience in that...but IDK the website will probably look pretty simple :/
Create another .gif with this one? mehhhh
ADD SOME KIND OF MUSIC? I like music...

The critter does have a preliminary story to it. I storyboarded it a week ago, but it will probably be for another animation...an animation I will do on my free time :p

On a random note, I think I am going to enroll into this class. It looks like it will be worth while since I am thinking about creating a demo reel.

Not too much...

This was supposed to be posted yesterday:

Work day all day.

Today, I am going to be messing with after effects most all day, figuring out things.

This displays:

So each part of my creature was a different file
within each file, there were many layers
the layers will act as frames
I will be using Adobe Premiere instead of Adobe AE (phew!)

Yeah,yeah today is the 3rd!

Today was rather slow..or perhaps, I am just a slow worker sometimes, lol.
ANYWAYS,
Today, I completely sketched out(filled in color and distinguished the shadows) the tail, the head, the ears, the wings, and the feet. The eyes and some of the head are still in progress. Tomorrow there is no class!; however, I do have After Effects on my computer so I might mess with that over the holiday. I will be mostly alone on the fourth, so yeah, there is time to do stuff~~

I really didn't wanna take screenshots of everything until they are more refined :).

End of the update...
and I can't tell jokes to save my life, hahaha!

Progression of second project!

Oh boy, so this is gonna take longer than I thought! hahaha but it will all be ok in the end :)
so far, I have most of the wing (right wing)done. Then I am going to try and knock out the eyes, face, and ears tonight as homework. Wooooo, staying up late!(or waking up realllllyyyy early. I will probably do the latter). I am excited to get this finished because there is only one week to do all this! oh my goodness...HERE WE GO!

starting of the head...

WING! yeahh

I did quite a bit of research on the way bats fly.
Bat's wings are more slender and light. There wings consist of an arm bone and 4 fingers (unlike birds where they have arm w/ one finger).
They have a thin membrane instead of feathers. The membrane extends from the tail to the neck-note: I need to add membrane section right above the arm!
Bat's wings do not synchronize with each other during flight unlike bird's wings.

Whoaa..it has been awhile

I can't believe it has almost been a week since I posted!

A friend of mine from class let me borrow this informative book about animating. He has some good notes and good resources to help out with my project...
However, I am still thinking about getting the Animator's survival kit because that is far more in-depth

Here are some steps I have been taking for my new project....

I currently have TWO/DOS/NI/ZWEI(2)...lolz...IDEAS!
The first idea was creating a stop motion(probably clay motion more than anything),but It probably would take way too long to do that. I remember rushing through a stop motion and it wasn't so good..like at all hahahaha! anyways
or
I was just gonna do a 2d animation of this new character I created above and animate a story..however, this will probably take too long as well.
So I have to a conclusion that I will just make an animation out this character (who has not been named but will be soon!)

  TADA! ta-da
Tadah?! Tuduh!?? whateverz.

The painting is pretty much done! I am somewhat sad that I can not print it out(yeah, I was a dumb dumb for not checking everything beforehand) because it would have looked better printed out. Oh well, life goes on and I am actually excited about the next project we will be doing!

I will probably post about my ideas after the critique tomorrow. Oh man, I am already feeling a little sick to my stomach, but everything will be ok...okayy.

Sunday posting!

Readjusted some of the highlights in the rock formations
Added the blue goo as the aerialist's head (lol)
Redid parts of the sky
Toned the middle character with some shadowing blues

Tomorrow morning I probably will work on the shadowing in the background to make it look more dimensional
Ugh, crit day is very soon! I am getting a little nervous

Transformation

Well, the past several days have been a little stressful...with internship and personal related stuff, so I ended up losing some class time for that. Mannnn, I was irritated, but I really liked what happened in class today. This weekend I hope to finish what I need to finish in Painter and also, work on a possible sculpture. I have the supplies for it, but I am not sure how I am presenting everything anymore.
A mistake with the image resolution has hindered my previous presentation ideas. Hopefully, I will think of something this weekend...
ANYWAYS..yeah weekend!

Slowly but surely...

Today has been agonizing so far. My body is terribly sore from doing this Insanity workout yesterday. I thought I would be ok since I work out alot anyways, but no...NOOOO!!!

Anyways,
In more important matters...Corel painter has been functioning rather slowly this afternoon. I think I need to restart the program or perhaps my PC. It is probably nothing major, but here is the combination of the background piece I worked on yesterday AND the greenblob revamped piece

I am liking the combination of the two pieces, but I think I am going  to incorporate more darker tones into the green blob and the pink legs, so it can feel like it was originally there.

Hopefully, I will get alot done in today's class period.

In more other news...
I have really been considering on going to CTN Expo in Los Angeles this year, but I really need some assistance with my portfolio. I found this article:here that is helpful so far. The author doesn't have visuals, but he intensively explains the pitfalls of portfolios.
I just enrolled in this Story telling class on Skillshare. I probably won't get started until after this week, but I am excited to do so!

The weekend!

The weekend has been pretty fun and somewhat productive. My twin sister visited and we had loads of fun, but of course, I still had to work 10 hours on saturday. BLEH!
Anyways,I practiced with corel painter Friday night. I have two things painted, but they aren't for this project! hahaha!
Truthfully, I probably won't work on the project until later tonight after I finish my defensive driving class and dinner..

Awesome sculpture I found..I can't remember the artists name, but I will go find his or her name!!

Here is what I did in class today.I used corel painter and oh my goodness, it is a great program! I think I am going to go download the trial version it right now, so I can work on it during the weekend :)

Illustrator stuff

I decided to take a break from Photoshop stuff (which I might consider using Corel painters instead..who knows) and gave Illustrator a chance. I still don't like that much, but I do like the effect it is doing. The tutorial that was provided in class today was something I thought would be neat to try. I tried it and this is where I am so far with it.

Along with these prints, I REALLY want to make a sculpture related to my prints. The atmosphere a three-dimensional piece just makes the space..better! (unless the sculpture is poorly made then my statement would not be accurate~!)

Here is the layout of what I want to do with the digital print. It is poorly drawn, but the face/smile things are all the individual aerialists. The purple is an idea of what I want the background to in case.  It looks like a monster, but I just want it to be an 'exciting','active' form (I don't have many fancy words for it).

Sculpture idea #1

These are inspirations for both my sculpture idea and the digital print:

Work day

Today is a work day at the lab, so a pretty chill day.
Yesterday I did work on the project for quite a bit, but sadly, the image i wasn't working on wasn't as big as I wanted, and I also didn't really like it.
(meh, didn't like this...at all)

So I started over again and I am actually liking the new one a little bit better than the other one. I sadly do not have the image saved on my laptop, so I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to post the new one.
Tonight I am starting the other pose...trying to see which colour scheme I want. Hopefully, for the new image and next post, I can layout a colour scheme rather than just feeling what might be appropriate.

                                                                       Inspirations
These images inspire me to be more creative with what my project is about and for myself.

(not really pertaining to what I want, but I couldn't resist! these girls really impressed me when I watched them in one of the Cirque shows)

Preliminary sketches:
a sketch of a trapeze artist( my teacher Bethany)

another idea of how to integrate Bethany

the measurements(plus random math) of the Flood Gallery

First sketch of what I wanted my print to do with the space...

Lastly, my favorite piece from the Louvre! This past May I went to Europe for about 2 weeks. I traveled to four countries since there isn't alot of time to go everywhere...Anyways,I thoroughly enjoyed this piece and I find it to be an inspiration to my future paintings.

Introduction

Hi all!
Welcome to my blog 'Sketchy Summer Time!', where my summertime dreams..and other (possible) dreams will come alive!
Basically, this is an art blog specifically designed for a summer digital art class I am taking at the University of Texas. Cool school, cool art. The blog will feature primary sketches, in-progress images, and the final product.
Of course, I am super duper excited about starting this blog because art is fun and awesome.

For the first project, I will be doing a big print that will (hopefully) suspend from one wall to the next. The location of the print will be in this space called the Flood Gallery, which is located in the Art building at UT. It is the fourth floor to be exact. I have recorded the measurements of the space into my sketchbook. By tonight, I will post the measurements, so there is more of an understanding of this Flood Gallery. The subject matter for the project is a little difficult to explain, but it has to do with aerialists and ambiguous/made-up forms.
The aerialist idea came to mind because it is a personal hobby that I thoroughly enjoy. Personally, I started on aerial silks a couple summers ago, but lately it has all been about trapeze. It is a challenging hobby that forces one to express their body in unimaginable ways. It also pushes one to their limits, but that is what I kind of live for.
Anyways, what I want to do with these aerialists is integrate them into these forms...like this painting here:
My former classmates said that the form was a tentacle, a diseased creature, or something with warts.
Most responses were pretty disgusting and I had no intention to make it this way;however, something in me wanted the painting to take this path. Not sure if this is a reflection of me because if that is the case...I think I am concerned about my mental health, HAHA.
The large print will feature about 3-5 aerialists, with different tricks, colors, and forms.

Ok well I am going to stop writing and get to work!
Peace out girl scout,
Kathryn
